Hiking & Biking Trails

With and estimated total of 15 miles of trails we have something for everyone to enjoy! (For summer use only). Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District has developed scenic mountain biking and hiking trails on the recreation district land. There are a variety of distances and difficulty levels, from short loops to a 6-mile round-trip hike/bike, many dog-friendly options, and a picnic area overlooking a beautiful wetland. We have wildlife – Beware of wildlife.

HIKERS: Wander through forested land or venture down to the North Fork of the Colorado River. The Colorado River Trail is the main trail on our system with several small connecting trails (the Colorado River Trail is 5.2 miles round-trip). More about Hiking at GLMRD . . .

BIKIERS: Ride the single track trails through fun and exciting terrain, with vistas of the three lakes, Colorado River, and wetlands with wild flowers. More about Biking at GLMRD . . .

Mountain biking on the Colorado River trail for Independence Day- what a perfect way to spend the weekend!” ~ Stephanie Webb, Vancouver, British Columbia

Take US Hwy 34 North toward Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake. Go past the entrance to the town of Grand Lake for approximately ¼ mile, and turn left on County Road 48 – Golf Course Road. Go one mile and look for trail head parking on the left.

CAUTION: during high winds patrons should exercise caution when using the trails because the potential of the trees falling is a hazard of the trail system.
